The Hurricanes and Silvertips announced earlier today that they have completed a trade. Jaeger White (C) is off to Everett in return for a 6th round bantam draft pick in 2017. White has tallied 1 g and 2 a in 21 games played this season. Jaeger is a native of Medicine Hat, AB and has spent his entire WHL career with Lethbridge. White is only 17 and has shown flashes of brilliance that demonstrate why he was drafted in the 4th round of the 2013 bantam draft. That said, it just hasn’t been a seamless fit, especially this season. Jaeger had found himself bouncing in and out of the lineup and struggling to differentiate himself from guys like Sheen, Davis, and Vandervlis with consistency. He had been relegated to a checking role, and while some of that was on him for not getting on the score sheet enough, Jaeger probably wasn’t going to get the opportunity he needed on this Hurricanes team. Remember that prior to beginning his WHL career, White had been a prolific point-getter in minor and scored at a point-per-game pace in his final season with the Midget AAA Tigers in Medicine Hat.

This trade should give Jaeger a much better opportunity to show his offensive upside. The Silvertips are third last in goals for this season with 71, ahead of only Swift Current and Kootenay. Everett is a solid team with great netminding and I suspect White will be provided a great opportunity in Washington state and hopefully find himself in the top six with PP minutes.

From a Hurricanes perspective, it opens a number of questions. Will the team proceed with 12 forwards or is there another trade coming? My guess is we might see Anholt trade some of his recently acquired draft picks and possibly a roster player to bring in a gritty bottom six guy. When and how? I don’t know but we will all be waiting in anticipation.

Best of luck in Everett Jaeger!
