Games 1 & 2 Playoff Dates Set

  • Brock Boot

We’ve been waiting a long time for news like this. We don’t know who the team will be facing yet, but does it really matter? The Hurricanes are back in the show and holding home ice advantage no-less!

It’s looking like it will be a first round match-up with either Moose Jaw or Regina. Allot needs to play out between now and the end of the week before we know with any certainty, but if I were a betting man that’s where I would put my money. I’m not sure I would want to play Regina right now, but at the same time, Moose Jaw boasts one of the best lines in the entire league. In either case, the Hurricanes will be viewed as the favorites and we will have to see how the team responds. For all their strengths, the Hurricanes lack playoff experience.

As soon as we know for certain who the Hurricanes will face, we will begin working on a comprehensive 1st round playoff preview and share it here on the site. For now, we will work with the information we have.

Dates and press release after the break.

The first two playoff dates are set. See the official team press release for more.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce that they will hold home-ice advantage in the first round of the 2016 Western Hockey League playoffs.

The Hurricanes will open the first round of the playoffs with Game 1 being held on Friday, March 25th at 7:00pm at the ENMAX Centre. Game 2 will take place on Saturday, March 26th at 7:00pm. The remaining games of the series, and the remaining home games of Round 1, are yet to be determined as well as the Hurricanes first round opponent.

It will be the first time since 2008-2009 that the Hurricanes will appear in the post-season and the first time since Round 2 of the 2008 WHL playoffs that the Hurricanes will hold home-ice advantage in a playoff series.

Single game playoff tickets for Game 1 and Game 2 will go on sale Saturday, March 19th at 10:00am. Six-Game Playoff Packages are still available until Friday, March 18th for new and current Season Ticket holders. Tickets can be purchased through the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre or by phone by calling (403) 329-SEAT (7328).

I am not sure but I think the playoff format has changed with the wild card teams. Conference winner plays #8 and other division winner plays #7, then # 2 and 3 from each division play each other. If we stay ahead of Red Deer we will play Regina, if we finish in 2nd we play Calgary

Correct. Just remember that Regina is right on Moose Jaws heels. So if the Canes win their division but finished behind Brandon (all but a certainty) and Regina passes MJ, then the Canes could end up playing MJ.
